OSU Ship Operations, located in Newport, OR, is the home port for the 54 foot RV Elakha,, and the 199 foot RV Taani (currently under construction). In addition to these OSU research vessels, the facility also supports visiting vessels of the University National Oceanographic Laboratory System (UNOLS) Academic Research Fleet, houses the West Coast Van Pool and provides access to the sea for research, education, and engineering.

In preparation for the RCRV Taani, the pier has recently undergone significant construction. During this process, the original pier and trestle (built in the 1960s) were replaced with a new and much more robust section, along with a number of upgrades to the remaining pier section, floating dock, and causeway. These improvements greatly enhance Ship Ops’ ability to support safe science at sea.
