RV Gilbert Mason aluminum superstructure is under construction in Amelia, LA. The pilothouse is in the right half of the view. Below that are crew staterooms, and then the covered foc'sle area. Construction of the main mast is on the left hand side of the view. It will be installed on top of the pilothouse shortly before the vessel is launched.

When complete, the superstructure will be barged to Houma, LA to the Bollinger Houma Shipyard, off loaded, and erected onto the steel hull. The aluminum-steel connection is made using a "detacouple" which is an explosively bonded metal strip with steel on one side and aluminum on the other.
